Yiwei Ding
Master's Student at Georgia Institute of Technology

Hi there!
I am Yiwei Ding. I’m a PhD student at University of Würzburg in Germany. I work in Computational Humanities group at Center for Artificial Intelligence and Data Science (CAIDAS). The group is led by Prof. Christof Weiß.
My research interests include music information retrieval tasks (e.g. chord recognition, key detection, beat tracking, etc.), representation learning for audio and music, and music source separation. Basically, I like all tasks that teaches the computer to listen or to process audio and music. I’m also open and interested to other fields of computational humanities (that I have not worked on yet), putting the traditional humanity topics (e.g. media, movies, society, etc.) under the context of AI.
Before joining University of Würzburg, I was a master’s student at Georgia Institute of Technology, majoring in Music Technology. I was doing research in the Music Informatics Group, advised by Prof. Alexander Lerch. Before that, I completed my bachelor’s degree at Fudan University in Shanghai, majoring in Data Science and Big Data Technology.
As my hometown, Shanghai has always been and will always be my favorite city - it’s metropolitan, modern, international and convenient. Being born-and-bred in Shanghai, I have my dearest family, teachers, friends, and countless unforgettable memories there.
Besides research, I’m into a wide variety of things. I enjoy listening to music and playing the piano. I have been practing the classical piano since the covid year. My favorite composer (as in Aug. 2025) is Pytor Tschaikovsky. I also enjoy reading and traveling.
